Pet Odor & Stain Removal | Salt Lake City UT
Scott’s Carpet Care technicians have been specially trained to locate pet stains using high power ultra violet lamps. During our cleaning process, we carefully treat and remove infected areas.
Carpets with urine stains are not uncommon in homes with household pets. Territorialism, anxiety, or plain necessity will cause pets to urinate on carpet. Your dog will pee on everything in your house if it is not neutered, including furniture, curtains, shoes, and handbags.
The color of pet urine and its staining potential are often determined by the pet’s dietary habits and age. People who consume a lot of protein tend to have darker, pungent, and acidic urine. Corn and oats, which are high in carbohydrates, produce urine that is more alkaline and less likely to stain carpets and produce an unpleasant odor. Since cat diets are higher in protein than dog diets, their urine may produce harsher odors and stains more often.
It is also important to consider the pet’s age. The plasma proteins in older pets’ urine are higher because of diminished renal function. Since this urine contains less uric acid, it is less likely to stain a carpet, but will smell even stronger. Pet urine is the most common reason for stains on carpets.
What do I need to do first?
Usually, stains that appear within a few hours can be cleaned successfully. By using a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, followed by blotting only with water, this can be accomplished. Spray the solution. To dry the spot, absorb it with clean colorfast towels until it is as dry as possible. Next, cover the spot with a half-inch thick layer of colorfast towels (white). The final step should not be overlooked since crystallized urine residues left in the carpet are capable of reproducing odors in the warmer months when moisture levels are higher. An older urine stain may require the carpet and pad to be replaced as well as the subfloor to be disinfected. This service is also performed by our fully trained technicians.
We also clean pet vomit stains.
Vomit must be cleaned as quickly as possible for it to be effective, as with urine. The material must first be scraped up as much as possible.
After that, the pH of the stained area must be raised. Blot the area with non-sudsing ammonia and water, then blot with a damp towel until it is as dry as possible. You should also lay a weighted layer of white towels folded one-half inch thick over the spot and let it sit overnight so that residual matter can soak into the towel.
